Jackie Mize International Children's Foundation
The Beginning
The birth of the Jackie Mize International Children's Foundation came about as a direct result of the life of Jackie Mize herself. Born and raised in west Texas, young Jackie had a love of babies and children. All she wanted to be when she "grew up" was a wife and a mother. Jackie had to face the most devastating news from her doctor when she was a girl, "You'll never be able to have children." When Jackie met and married young missionary, Terry Mize, she found out that she could indeed conceive a baby and they went on to have four kids! (Their kids are all grown now and they have seven grandchildren!)
As Jackie began traveling around the world with her husband, her love of babies and children grew into a compassion that compelled her to begin to take action in the fight for orphans and unwanted babies around the world. She has been called "the mother of the world" due to her relentless fight to help needy children around the globe. Through their travels, the heartbreaking need for humanitarian aid has had an overwhelming impact on their lives. Terry and Jackie have been involved over the years in children's homes and orphanages in Africa, Mexico, Central America, Southeast Asia, Jamaica, India and Romania.
India
When the founder of the Mother Dolly Davis Children's Home in Madras, India, passed away, his widow asked Terry and Jackie to "Please take care of our kids." Without hesitation they agreed and have been the owners, sole supporters and financiers of that home for over 10 years. This particular home has 74 children who are provided with food, clothing, education, spiritual guidance and an abundance of love.
Romania
In recent years Terry and Jackie have become involved in girl's homes in Romania. In that country, when girl orphans reach the age of 16, they are no longer eligible for adoption and at 18 are put out into the street with no skills or ability to take care of themselves. Statistics prove that these girls turn to prostitution and other dangerous and degrading activities for their livelihood. It is the intent of this foundation to build homes for these girls; to take them from the streets and teach them a life skill so they can support themselves and make a contribution to their society.
Whether it be a technical skill such as working with computers or some other profession; we want to give them the opportunity to look in the mirror and be proud of themselves. We believe an effective trade for these girls to learn would be social work, so they could go back into the orphanage system they came from to help make a difference. Who knows the system and the way of life better than they?
Currently the Foundation is in the process of submitting all the paperwork required for the country of Romania to give us a girl's orphanage in Zau, where 117 little princesses currently reside. Our purpose is two-fold: First, we want the smaller children to be adopted into good and loving homes, and secondly, we want to provide the older girls with not only love and care, but a work skill.
JMICF intends to build homes, buy homes, and invest in other similar projects, agencies, or foundations and to be involved in all aspects of care and support for the children under its covering. We are committed to the highest standards when hiring staff to oversee the daily needs and care of the children. JMICF does not discriminate against any children regardless of race, color, origin, religion, creed or any other reason.
The Mission
Our goal is to give hope to the hopeless, love to the unloved, and provision to the needy. Our desire is to give corporations the opportunity to invest in the lives of the forgotten, abused, neglected, and abandoned children of the world and to leave a legacy of hope. We believe that provisions of shelter, food, clothing, education and training in a safe and loving environment in a child's natural community or country will have the longest lasting and most beneficial impact on a child and the community in which that child lives.
How You Can Help
We need your financial contributions to make this possible. We also need people with special skills: builders, schoolteachers, doctors, dentists, nurses and laypersons to join with us. We believe that all children deserve to have these basic necessities of life, regardless of their circumstances. We have so much; we should help those that have nothing.

I India
1) We have a children's home in the nation of India with 95 precious children that we totally have the responsibility for: housing, food, clothing, education, medical, etc. We are their total and only support. If we don't meet their needs, no one else does. There are seven adult staff members whose salaries are paid by us, who care for and rear these children. The present land is quite full, as we have built 2 new buildings this year.
Needs:
- Supporters/sponsors for each child.
- Special gifts at Christmas time.
- Purchase of more land to build the facilities on.
- Facilities built, once the land is purchased.
- Several vans, to supply transportation.
II Romania
1) Gypsy village: Most of the local gypsy people in Romania live in very primitive circumstances, and squalor. They live about 75 years in the past. They drink from the river, bathe in the river, go to the bathroom in the river, wash clothes, kill animals, throw garbage and dead animals in the same river that they drink from. Education is virtually non-existent and infant mortality rate is very high. We have been very involved in purchasing a nice piece of property and building a new village. The village consists of seven buildings, each having two apartments for a total of fourteen apartments for fourteen families. Each building has a garden for fresh vegetables and a central bathhouse and central fresh water well. The idea is that we will move fourteen families into the village and train them in areas of hygiene and cleanliness etc. Then to bring other gypsies there and show them a model village and show them how they could live.
Needs:
- Financing to finish this worthy project. Total cost is about $100,000.00 (one hundred
thousand)
- Financing and physical help to do it again in another location.
2) Girls home at Zau - This is a government orphanage, housing 117 girls, ages 5-17. The government has offered to give this home to us. We would be the total support for these precious girls. The government has just passed a law that all large orphanages must be shut down within the next five years. Except for private homes, which Zau would be when they give it to us.
Needs:
- This home is an old historic castle built in the 1700's. Obviously it needs constant work and maintenance. We have put indoor plumbing; the girls were going to the bathroom outside when we arrived. You would be proud of the great bathrooms we built. Also we installed a huge boiler, shipped in from Italy for hot water. Over $54,000.00 has just been spent to redo the kitchen and dinning room. Including new stainless steel stove, ovens and cabinets. The government had condemned their kitchen and they were not allowed to use it and had to cook outside.
- Monthly financial support is of course needed for the ongoing expenses of this home and these precious girls and our staff.
- Special finances at special times like Christmas are needed to give these girls the only presents that they will receive.
- Physical help is also needed. Caregivers, doctors, nurses, dentists, plumbers, carpenters, electricians, and people with farm and livestock experience etc.
3) Tirgue Mures is a large town in Transylvania about 40 miles from the home at Zau. The government has offered to give us a project on the edge of town that has absolutely incredible potential. Ten years ago, a Swiss company began construction on this project, which would comprise of eleven (11) two story homes built in a huge circle on about 12 acres, with a central building for multi-purposes. The company went bankrupt and left the project with the eleven homes and the central building partially completed. Each building has a foundation; walls and a roof, no interior structure. If we take this project, we would finish the construction, and move the girls from Zau into it. Then we would have eleven homes, with house parents and children, and a large central multi-purpose building.
Needs:
-
One of the eleven homes has now been finished, very nicely. First class construction and furnishings including window coverings and washer and dryer. The cost of this home being totally completed was $45,000.00.
-
Assuming we can complete the other ten homes at the same price, we are looking at a budget of $450,000.00. I feel more comfortable at thinking the budget will be $50,000.00 each, and times ten we are looking at half a million dollars.
-
At this time, I don't have an estimate on completion of the multi-purpose building. Once the construction is completed and the orphans and house parents are moved in, we estimate that each of the eleven homes will cost about $1,000.00 per month for living expenses and caring for the children, as well as salaries for the house parents. Monthly expenses would then be $11,000.00, for the care, rearing and well being of these precious children. After these expenses, we only foresee extra monies for special times and occasions i.e. Christmas and birthdays.
4.) Girls home in Romania for 18-year-old girls that have been put out of government orphanages. When an orphan turns 18, the government puts them out on the street. Statistics prove that most of the females go into prostitution and/or drugs just to survive. So we have two locations now for these girls. One is a rented apartment, the other in a very nice two-story home we built. Our plan is that we help these girls for one year with education, jobs, training, help managing money, etc.
Needs:
So many have asked about our projects that we have going on around the world. There are so many things and projects that we are involved in one way or another as we continue to try to help a hurting world. The following are just some of our projects, and the ones that we are either very hands-on with or are totally responsible for.
